The leaked Sony emails just keep getting worse and worse.
It’s one thing to call one guy “a whore,” or to make fun of the president in a kind-of-sort-of-racist way. But now, American Hustle director David O. Russell has been pulled into the muck after Columbia Pictures’ Michael De Luca brought up a very unseemly part of Russell’s past.
“David’s a loon, talented, but geez once I saw him bring Sally Field to a party and reduce her to tears,” he wrote in an email to Sony’s Amy Pascal. “Plus remember when he got in trouble for feeling up his transgender nieces [sic] boobs?”
According to The Smoking Gun, in 2011 Russell’s transgender niece had previously filed a complaint saying that the director had approached her at a Florida gym, squeezed her breasts, and asked her about her transgender transformation. Russell never denied the incident, instead telling police that his nuece was “acting very provocative toward him” and that he was simply “curious about the breast enhancement.”
No charges were ever filed, and the case was closed. Except now, it’s been reopened for all the world to see.
