Box Office: "Exodus: Gods and Kings" Rules Over "Hunger Games"

"Exodus: Gods and Kings" ruled over all competition at the box office this weekend.

None

Christian Bale's bad-ass leaning Moses was enough of a draw to knock The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 off its perch atop the box office, as Exodus: Gods and Kings brought in $24.5 million to win the weekend, according to the studios' Sunday numbers.

Mockingjay brought in $13.2 million to land at No. 2, Penguins of Madagascar was No. 3 with $7.3 million, Chris Rock's well-reviewed Top Five was No. 4 with $7.2 million and Big Hero 6 was No. 5 with $6.1 million.

Exodus might have been on top, but with a reported price tag of $140 million, it has a looong way to go before it can be called a success. Comparing it to the $43.7 million opening that Darren Aronofsky's bible epic Noah had and it's kind of a letdown. On top of that, the reviews have not been good

Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice did not crack the top 10, but it made $300,000 on only five screens, which is pretty impressive.
