Naughty Dog's masterpiece PS3 title The Last of Us was already pretty cinematic to begin with, but the movie is coming anyway, and it looks like Maisie Williams is probably up for the lead role.
The landmark game follows a man in his early 50s named Joel and a brave teenager named Ellie as they traverse a Cormac McCarthy-esque post-apocalyptic America that has been ravaged by a fungal infection.
The adaptation's authenticity (it is being written by the game's director Neil Druckmann) and horror credentials (the producer is Sam Raimi) are already in place, so the news that Game of Thrones' extraordinary Maisie Williams is still keen on the lead role of foul-mouthed teen Ellie is encouraging.
She had this to say to the website IGN about her long-rumoured casting in the project:
"[Raimi and Druckmann] want me to do it, and I want to do it. But there’s no script, no director, and no anything else. So at this moment, it’s looking like, ‘Yes,’ but it’s still such early days. If they make it in 30 years, they can’t have a 40-year-old Ellie. So at the moment, it’s looking good, and I’d love to do it. Hell yeah.”
It is still early days for The Last of Us movie, but Williams' quotes and meetings with the filmmakers suggest she's pretty much in the bag at this point.
