Marvel (sort of) still can't be beat at the box office, even by Christopher Nolan.

Big Hero 6, the animated, Disney-produced, PG adventure based on a Marvel comic book about  a robot sidekick, was the weekend's top earner, despite the release of Nolan's epically-budgeted space epic Interstellar

To be fair, both movies did great business and gave the box office overall a giant boost, with Big Hero 6 pulling in $56.2 million domestically compared to Interstellar's $50 million. Interstellar pulled down $132.5 million worldwide.

Both movies had estimated budgets of $165 million.

Rounding out the top five earners this weekend were three older releases. Gone Girl was third with $6.1 million, Ouija was No. 4 with $6 million and St. Vincent was No. 5 with $5.7 million.

Big Hero 6's debut marks the best stand-alone weekend ever for Disney animation, according to Forbes. The next best was Wreck It Ralph's 2012 debut, which brought in $49 million.
