Oscar Pistorius Found Guilty of Culpable Homicide

Judge Thokozile Masipa declared her ruling this morning.

Oscar Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide in South Africa's most famous trial of recent years. Yesterday morning he was found not guilty of premeditated murder. Judge Thokozile Masipa presided over the verdict.

Pistorius had been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, the South African model Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot and killed at their home on February 14th 2013. The trial has been one of the biggest media events of the year with the judge ruling the proceedings could be broadcast in full since it began in March.

Pistorius is a gold winning Paralympian who qualified for the 2012 London Olympics. He is known as the 'blade runner' because of the two blade-like prosthetic legs he uses when running. Sentencing will take place at a later date.
