The Jeremy Renner "Bourne" Sequel Is Going Ahead as Planned

Despite reports of Matt Damon returning to play Jason Bourne, the Jeremy Renner "Bourne" sequel is still going ahead as planned.

Earlier this week we brought you news of Matt Damon potentially coming back to play Jason Bourne. Fans rejoiced, but there was still the question of how it would affect the planned sequel to Jeremy Renner's 2012 Bourne film. By the looks of it, it won't. Universal is reportedly going ahead with the Renner flick as planned, which means we could be seeing two different films in the Bourne world in coming years.

"That movie is moving forward, " Bourne producer Frank Marshall told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's still in development. We're working to get a script as soon as possible." Marshall also said the plan is to proceed with both movies because there isn't a deal with Damon and writer/director Paul Greengrass.

If both projects do end up making it to theatres, it'll be interesting to see how audiences react to the Renner version. In all likelihood it'll come out first, and we wouldn't be surprised if people held out for the return of Damon. That's what I would do.
