The Earth Almost Got Hit by an Asteroid This Weekend

And a meteorite hit the Nicaraguan capital.

It was one of those weekends that either makes you lie awake at night thinking about the earth's ultimate demise, or one where you're left saying 'awww cooool'—as an asteroid the size of a house narrowly missed hitting earth on Sunday and a meteorite landed in Nicaragua late on Saturday night.

People in the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, reported there being a loud bang and burning smell around 11pm on Saturday, and a 12m wide and 5m deep crater was later found. The crater is thought to have been caused by a meteorite that broke off from the larger asteroid. The country is asking for international experts to investigate further.

Though they try and fuddle us with fancy government words, we all know what 'international experts' means—the Men in Black. Any crater that size undoubtedly contains cockroaches that eat humans and wear their skin. Sorry, Nicaragua.
