Based on the first of these two clips, the dynamic between Colin Farrell and Jessica Chastain in Miss Julie can best be described as very uncomfortable.
Farrell plays what amounts to a butler for Chastain and her family, but the two are nevertheless mutually attracted to one another. There’s a slight complication in that Farrell also happens to be engaged to someone else, but no matter.
This whole “let me examine you eyeball” game is the oldest trick in the book, and despite the loud, intense, nervous breathing, the two seem to hit it off.
The second clip is far less creepy, as Farrell discusses the first time he saw Chastain, and how he’s basically loved her ever since. Very sweet, but we’ve seen that first clip; we all know how awkwardly intense things are going to get.
