Having written and directed the highly-successful Love and Basketball, Gina Prince-Bythewood can certainly be considered an expert on playing up the drama of a young love story. Her next project—Beyond the Lights—takes a look at pop stardom through the eyes of a young artist and her struggle with the pressures of being famous.

The film stars GuGu Mbatha-Raw as emerging star Noni Jean, Mini Driver as her overbearing mother, and Nate Parker as her love interest. Rapper Machine Gun Kelly makes his feature film debut, and can be seen in the trailer getting into a little scrap with Parker’s character.

Beyond the Lights hits theaters on November 14, and you can check out the trailer above.
