"American Idol" Singer Dead at 35

American Idol singer Michael Johns, who finished eighth on Season Seven has died of a blood clot at age 35.

Australian-born singer Michael Johns, who was one of the final eight contestants on Season 7 of American Idol, died Friday at age 35, The Hollywood Reporter reports. 

The cause of death is thought to be from a blood clot in his ankle. 

You might remember Johns for his soulful singing, but also because he was 28 when he made it through the show's audition, and 29, the maximum age, once the season started, making him one of the oldest contestants to that point. People were stunned when he was voted off despite never having been in the show's "bottom three."

He released one album after he appeared on the show, 2009's Hold Back My Heart.
