Bethesda has announced that the long-gestating next installment of Doom will make its debut at Quakecon in Dallas later this month. The news follows that already eagerly-anticipated arrival of the new Doom beta, the access to which was included with new copies of Wolfenstein: The New Order. Although Bethesda recently released a brief teaser trailer for the new Doom, very little has been said about the project – or whatever it's evolved into at this point – since it was first announced back in 2008.

After the release of 2011's Rage, it seemed that Doom 4, which may or may not still be the title, had been either put on hiatus or cancelled outright, with Bethesda announcing in 2013 that the game had not been up to standards. Soon fans will be able to find out what id has been working on since throwing out whatever they had before – and if it's anything like Doom 3: BFG Edition, we're likely in for a treat. Expect the new Doom to show its demonic face July 17; the Doom closed beta hits next-gen consoles and PC later this year. Keep it here for more as it develops.
