Film is dead. Television is real art. If you want to truly experience a character study, it can't possibly happen within two hours. It's much better fitted for, say, 13 episodes on Starz. And, since Steven Soderbergh is retired from film making, he's open to television, and he officialy made the deal with the Starz network to produce a show based on his 2009 film, The Girlfriend Experience.

The experimental drama followed former porn star Sasha Grey's character as a high-end call girl in Manhattan during the financial crisis around the 2008 election, while maintaining her relationship with her boyfriend. Also, side note, when can we stop calling Sasha Grey "former porn star" and start just calling her an "actress?"

The show already sounds promising, with Lodge Kerrigan (Clean, Shaven) and Amy Seimetz (Sun Don't Shine) to co-write and direct. Soderbergh adds, "We're in an exciting period of auteur-driven television right now... I thought: ‘Let's make it a different woman in a different city, let's pair two independent writer-directors, one male and one female, and let them do the whole thing'."
