James Cameron just can’t quit Sigourney Weaver.

Even though Weaver's character died in the original Avatar movie, Cameron announced last night that the legendary actress would be back for the three sequels that begin production in about a month. He said that:

“Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made Aliens. We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the Avatar sequels. Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films. We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration.”

While it may seem odd to bring back a character after we were supposed to be so touched by her death, Weaver isn’t even the first one to be resurrected for the upcoming movies. That honor goes to Stephen Lang, who gets to reprise his role as the miserably racist (against the Na’vi, mind you) Colonel Miles Quaritch.

Weaver has said that “my part is a little different in each [sequel]. I’ll transform somewhat,” but beyond that has been rather coy. So, what does transform mean? Is she part of that big earth mother tree now? Is she going to be one of those helpful, mystical fireflies? Or maybe something cool that we don’t even know about?

We demand answers!
