Video game developer collective Outer Heaven has struck the type of gold that every Metal Gear Solid fan dreams of: a co-sign from Konami. Today, the budding group of designers announced that they'll be hiring extra hands to assist in a Konami-approved remake of the original Metal Gear title. The release will be distributed via Steam.

In an interview with Polygon, Outer Heaven developer Ian Ratcliffe told the site that the game, "will be a full remake of the original game, new script, new models, the works. The theme compositions will also be revamped with orchestral arrangements and with the Metal Gear Solid 2 style electronic beats. The style of the game will be reworked, bringing it more up-to-date with the other games in the series, we're still undecided on some aspects, like what style to have the camera angles, birdseye view or the more traditional Metal Gear Solid/Metal Gear Solid 2 style."

Given that the group won't be receiving any money from this release, it truly is the ultimate passion project. We salute them for their dedication to the franchise. Steam users everywhere are sure to appreciate their efforts.
