Just weeks after Bryan Singer reinvigorated the X-Men franchise with Days of Future Past, the director’s future on the series might be in jeopardy. According to a report from Radar Online, Fox might be looking to replace Singer as the director for the film’s sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse, due to the sexual abuse allegations he is facing.

An insider told the site that Singer is clashing with Fox over his legal woes, and the studio “isn’t confident in it not heavily impacting production,” according to the source. The source also said that, “They’re also looking at how far back they can push production without moving the release date, if any lawsuit did get a court date.”

But apparently there is more to this story than just the legal process. The site is also reporting that Fox is wary of giving the director another $250 million for Apocalypse. If a court date is set during production, it could delay the film, costing the studio millions in the process.

Singer’s lawyers have evidence that the director couldn’t have committed the sexual abuses he has been accused of, but when you’re talking about a $200+ million movie, studios aren’t willing to take any risks. This is obviously only a rumor at this point, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.

Regardless of what happens with Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
