Former director of Ant-Man Edgar Wright—whose departure from the film last week amid rumors of a divide with Marvel is just the latest in a string of similar incidents for the studio—has broken his silence regarding his ouster, and how he feels about it. Well, sort of.

Wright sent out, then soon deleted, the following tweet:

For those not familiar with the photo (which we’re assuming is many of you), allow us to explain what it means.

The so-called "selife" is actually a picture of actor Buster Keaton, who is also holding a photoshopped-in Cornetto ice cream cone. Cornetto, as you may know, is also the name of the trilogy of films Wright previously directed (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End) before signing on with Marvel for Ant-Man.

In 1928, Keaton decided to leave the independent film world and join MGM studios; he would soon call this the “worst mistake of my career,” forever regretting his decision to forfeit his creative freedom in favor of the tantalizing studio dollars.

Functionally, Wright is saying the same thing happened to him. Given Marvel’s history, we can’t say we’re all that surprised; ultimately, though, it will be their loss.
