According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brett Ratner’s production company, RatPac Entertainment, has purchased the rights to Jesse KatzLos Angeles magazine article, Escape From Cuba: Yasiel Puig's Untold Journey to the Dodgers. The plan is for the article to be reconstituted into a screenplay, which RatPac will turn into a movie.

The article details the struggles of Los Angeles Dodgers star, Yasiel Puig, as he attempted to flee Cuba in order to play professional baseball in the States. In the article, Katz revealed that Puig received help from a sponsor, who arranged his journey with the help of a Mexican drug cartel. However, when his sponsor didn’t pay the cartel immediately, Puig was actually held captive by the cartel for nearly three weeks. The details alone make this sound like a movie already.

This is a story that has garnered controversy throughout Major League Baseball because it calls into question how dangerous it is for certain players to get to the United States in the first place. There is no word on who will write, direct, or star in the movie yet, but expect those decisions to be made in the near future.
