12 Monkeys is one of the great underrated sci-fi gems of the last 20 years, and it looks like Syfy is attempting to recapture that magic on the small screen. According to Collider, the network has ordered 12 episodes of a 12 Monkeys TV drama that is set to air in January 2015.

The series will star the likes of Aaron Stanford (Nikita, X-Men 2), Amanda Schull (Suits), Noah Bean (Damages), and Kirk Acevedo (Fringe). The overarching plot will follow a time traveler, played by Stanford, who goes into the past to destroy a plague that ravages humanity in the future. The original movie was directed by Terry Gilliam and was an adaptation of the 1962 short film classic, La Jetée.
