Lionsgate has acquired film rights to Kimberly McCreight's upcoming trilogy, "The Outliers." The film will be made to follow the success of other young-adult blockbusters such as "The Hunger Games" and "The Twilight Saga." Reese Witherspoon, Todd Lieberman, David Hoberman and Bruna Papandrea are set to produce the film.

"Story centers on a young woman who’s best friend goes missing and turns up in a remote spot in the woods with a group called the Outliers, who claim to be able to harness “intuition” and turn it into a powerful psychological weapon," Variety reports. "She joins the Outliers but soon finds herself running for her life."

McCreight's first installment of the trilogy will be released in late 2015.
