Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima has expressed interest in seeing the upcoming (full) Metal Gear Solid V entry The Phantom Pain get a PC release. Speaking to Gamespot, Kojima said he'd like the second cross-platform console release of Metal Gear (following this month's Ground Zeroes) to investigate the possibility of bringing the game to PC reportedly based on fan feedback.
"PC, that's my original background. I originally created PC games," Kojima said in the interview. "A long time ago I didn't want to rely on platforms to release games – so if people want it, I cannot make a formal announcement, but that is definitely something that I would like to do."
Metal Gear has had a weird history with platform exclusivity. The core entries in the series have primarily showed up on PlayStation platforms while 2, 3 and Peace Walker were eventually ported to the 360 (leaving the original PS One MGS and MGS4) exclusive to Sony consoles. On the other hand, Raiden's gloriously over-the-top slice-and-dice spinoff Revengeance eventually was released on Steam.
While hardly a confirmation, given the tech capabilities of the Fox Engine, it does not come as a shock to learn that Phantom Pain might end up on something other than last and next-gen consoles. No release date has been announced for the MGSV sequel, but it's unlikely to hit before 2015.
