With all of the superhero movies, sequels, and reboots hitting theaters this summer, it’s easy to forget that there are a few new properties debuting as well. And one of the most interesting ones for sci-fi fans is Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. In the movie, Cruise and Blunt play soldiers thrown into a time loop, forced to live out the same battle against an unstoppable army over and over.

Like a cross between Groundhog Day, Halo, and D-Day, this movie looks to bring gritty realism back to sci-fi through impressive special effects and a heady plot. In this trailer we get a better sense of the tone, characters, and scope of the film, and it looks like a breath of fresh air for a blockbuster. Director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) has always been able to combine action and smarts, so Edge of Tomorrow could wind up surprising people when it hits theaters on June 6.
