Sunday night, 12 Years a Slave won Best Picture at the Oscars, which is great news and definitely something to be celebrated. Los Angeles-based newspaper, The Daily Breeze, had a different idea of what "celebrate" actually means, though: Monday morning, the paper printed the headline "'Slave' becomes master" to announce the film's Oscar win. No, seriously. This really happened.

Andrew Beaujon of Poynter.org spoke to Michael Anastasi, the paper's vice president of news, who said he “winced” when he saw the “tacky, ridiculous, stupid,” headline. He added that his “body is still contorted” from all of that wincing.

Anastasi has since spoken to the Breeze’s editors. “They feel terrible and have taken responsibility,” he said. The editors will reportedly be disciplined internally.
