"Witcher 3" Gameplay Designers Jump Ship for Indie

Time for handwringing?

CD Projekt Red, the developers behind the most anticipated game of 2014, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, have lost a gameplay designer and producer who are moving on to an indie studio.

Marek Ziemak and Maciej Szczesnik are no longer on The Witcher team after joining Warsaw-based 11 Bit Studios. Szczesnik will lead the development of a new game after leaving his role as gameplay designer for The Witcher franchise.

"I'll be responsible for the entire design of a game that took shape in my imagination," said Szczesnik in a prepared statement. "It's a really exciting feeling to create a new world from scratch, make its characters and rules and to know that I have this blank page to fill with my ideas and then bring them to life."

So why all the fuss about some video game industry shuffling? Because The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is probably the most interesting and anticipated next-gen title of this year. The developer had previously stated that the game was basically finished and that it was just in a polishing-up phase as it nears its unannounced release date sometime in 2014. So the movement of these to team members will probably do little to change the final game but it still going to leave fans a bit nervous. Don't worry, it's going to be alright. Just watch some gameplay footage below and try to hold yourself over until the big reveal.
