Did The Rock Just Hint That He's Playing The Green Lantern In "Batman Vs. Superman"?

His Instagram hashtag certainly suggests he is.

The rumors and speculation surrounding Warner Brothers’ untitled Batman vs. Superman movie is a 24/7 affair, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson just lit up the Internet with an intriguing Instagram photo that hints at his potential involvement in the film as the Green Lantern. Check it out: The picture itself isn’t what’s interesting; it’s the #JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss hashtag that he attached to the image that will get people talking. Longtime fans know that John Stewart is the third main Green Lantern that debuted in Green Lantern #87 in 1971. This obviously isn’t a confirmation of Johnson landing the part, but it’s consistent with previous rumors about the role.

After the Ryan Reynolds version bombed in 2011, Warner Bros. is looking for a way to exploit the Green Lantern name without conjuring traumatizing memories of the character’s lone solo movie. Johnson would work out perfectly for this spot. He has the over-the-top persona and physique of a comic book hero, plus he’s now one of Hollywood’s highest-grossing actors.

We’ll have more on this story when/if it gets confirmed.

Batman vs. Superman hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
