"Duke Nukem" On His Way Back To Spotlight, Apparently

An inevitability? Or a cold day in hell?

None

After the decade-plus development time that Duke Nukem Forever took (and given the result that the final muddled product had), it might have made sense to think that the world had seen the last of Duke Nukem. Now, even in spite of Gearbox seemingly showing interest in reviving the character for the modern age, there's apparently news that a new Duke title from Interceptor Entertainment is getting ready for its close-up, an alleged reveal at the end of February.

While it's been known for a while that Interceptor was working on a full remake of Duke Nukem 3D – one that Gearbox didn't want anyone seeing before Forever was released – text apparently decoded from the teaster site alloutofgum.net is reportedly pointing to the new game being titled Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, and is likely be an top-down action RPG of some kind for the PS4 and PC. Alloutofgum.net has since been taken down for maintenance, so it's hard to say.

Meanwhile, Interceptor CEO Frederik Schreiber was quoted last November as saying that he wanted to see a more serious Duke Nukem with an "epic" plot.

"Give us a Duke game without strippers, a great sinister villain than can break Duke (Think Bane from DK:Rising), a slightly older, and way more badass/gritty Duke, and a galactic plotline that can be taken seriously, and I’m sold!" Schreiber said.

Frankly, Duke is so tied up in all of those trope-y expectations that it seems hard to picture what Duke Nukem would even be without them – and whether or not anyone would care.

None of this alleged information on the new game has been confirmed, and it's still unknown how or even if Gearbox is involved, but there should be more news by the end of the month.
