If you ever wanted access to your annotations on the fly, Rap Genius has finally granted your wish.

The company released its first app for smartphones today in Apple's App Store. The app lets users tap into the company's annotated stream of songs, poetry, and news, all from an app instead of a clunky mobile site. To drive the point home about how serious the company is taking mobile traffic, Rap Genius said that they'd like all of their traffic to come from mobile down the line. "Right now, more than half of our traffic comes from mobile devices," said Rap Genius co-founder Tom Lehman. "Soon, it will be 100 percent."

When the Rap Genius app is installed, it will gather the lyrics and annotations for the music you have in your iPhone's playlists, and will allow you to pull up annotations for music that is playing around you, Shazam style.

"This app has long been our users’ most-requested feature, and we’re pumped to finally deliver," Lehman continued. No word yet on when an Android app will be released.
