Yesterday afternoon, a small aircraft carrying three passengers was forced to make an emergency landing on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx

According to the New York Daily News, the Piper PA28 Cherokee lost power around 3:20 p.m. after leaving Danbury Airport in Connecticut to execute a loop around the Statue of Liberty. Though air traffic controllers attempted to direct the plane to LaGuardia Airport, contact was lost.

Pilot Michael Schwartz was miraculously able to land the plane in the middle lane of the expressway's northbound side. Schwartz and his passengers, Kristina Terell and Monica Castillo, emerged from the plane with only minor injuries.

The plane, which was built in 1966, was still in one piece.
