Here's your chance to own on the most rare and sought after videogames ever made at a fraction of the price that it would normally go for. Why? Because it looks just plain terrible.
This copy of Nintendo World Championships cartridge popped up on Ebay for a measly initial bid of $4,999.99. While that may sound like a lot similar cartridges have sold for around $11,000. Although it probably had a sticker on the front and didn't have “Mario” scrawled gracelessly across it in ballpoint pin but it's what's on the inside that counts...sorta.
This rare cartridge was created for a nationwide Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) tournament in 1990 and features a game that made up of bits taken from Super Mario Bros., Tetris and Rad Racer. At the end of each of the three segments the game totals up the player's score and winners advanced to the national championships.
Nintendo also produced another rarity of 26 golden copies of Legend of Zelda-style cases which were given away as prizes in Nintendo Power magazine. While golden cartridges are worth more than the gray ones they still fetch over 10k when they do rarely change hands.
