Three manholes exploded on the Upper East Side yesterday morning, damaging a Mercedes and blowing the window out of a brownstone.

According to the New York Post, the explosions—which happened on East 89th Street near Third Avenue—are the result of salt from snow-plowing eating through wires beneath the ground. "It’s the salt—it chews up the cables," a Con Edison contractor explained to the Post.

Luckily no one was injured, but 27-year-old Amrinder Kang is feeling the pain due to the damage to his Benz. "It seems to have melted the front of the car. It’s just unlucky. I woke up early to go to work now I’m stuck doing this, now I have to pay the deductible, it just sucks," he told the Post.

Things could be much worse.
