In advance of its fast-approaching release date, Nintendo has released a final trailer for the 3DS' very promising-looking Bravely Default. This one tackles the story, which, in the tradition of classically old-school Final Fantasy, involves a world covered in darkness, the corruption of great elemental crystals and chosen heroes that must right this catastrophic wrong and restore order to the world.
In fact, the trailer paints Bravely Default's story in such broad strokes it's comical, but considering just how retro this not-FF title seems to be, it's still looking like it could be one of the best RPGs of the year, and a fine return to form, at least for the moment, for the somewhat all-over-the-place Square-Enix. (The whole "put everything on the line in battle" mechanic also sounds a bit like Vagrant Story's aptly-named Risk system, which can't be a bad thing.
Bravely Default hits North America early next month.
