When we look back at 2013, we'll easily remember the launch of the iPhone 5S, Google's Moto X, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. But, one of the most compelling stories is BlackBerry. The company went up for sell in 2013, then they took themselves off of the market to give it one last try—and one of the few things keeping its head afloat, in terms of credibility, is BBM.

BBM was released for iOS annd Android only a few weeks ago, and was an immediate hit, garnering some 10 million downloads in its first 24 hours. Then, BlackBerry followed it up with an update for BB10 users that introduced BBM Channels, the company's answer to a social network, which can be compared to Tumblr. Now the company is opening the flood gates and will be letting iOS and Android users get in on the Channels fun in 2014. It's something to look forward to, especially for all the BlackBerry ex-pats who have long since moved on to these new smartphones. Yet, BlackBerry announced that it will also be introducing BlackBerry Voice for iOS and Android, which is BlackBerry's own version of Skype and FaceTime Audio. All of this will be arriving in the "next couple of months."

The sooner the better for BlackBerry, as they'll probably want to wash the taste out of their mouths after it was revealed that they lost some $4.4 billion and experienced a 56 percent drop in revenue in the last quarter. Ouch.
