If you needed any more proof that TV shows are growing to be regarded just as highly as film, just take a look at all the major celebrities flocking to star in television shows. Kevin Spacey in House of Cards, William H. Macy in Shameless, Lucy Liu in Elementary, Don Cheadle in House of Lies—the list goes on. The industry is finally realizing that TV shows can be quality entertainent, and, as a result, the big names are flocking, The latest movie star to make the transition to TV? According to Vulture, that would be none other than Halle Berry, who has just signed on to the upcoming CBS series, Extant

Though hearing that the show is from CBS is an immediate thumbs down, consider this too: Extant is a thriller series from Steven Spielberg, and not every show on that network is a procedure crime series. Elementary, for instance, is a good show—and Extant does show some promise. Apparently, it was the subject of a major bidding war between networks, and when CBS won, they gave the series a full thirteen-episode first season order immediately.

As for the plot: Berry will reportedly be portraying a astronaut who returns to Earth and is reunited with her family after a yearlong mission in space. Things have changed, though, because she's having trouble "reconnecting" with them—which probably has something to do with some experiences "in space and home lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history." No word on what this means, though, so you'll unfortunately have to tune in next year to find out.

Extant will begin airing on CBS next summer.
