Before his tragic death earlier this year, James Gandolfini was set to star in and executive produce the miniseries Criminal Justice over at HBO. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has made the decision to move forward with the seven-part miniseries after Gandolfini's passing, and will credit Gandolfini posthumously as an executive producer for his work developing the series.
In place of Gandolfini as the star, the network has also confirmed that Robert De Niro will step in to the lead role of Jack Stone, an "ambulance-chasing lawyer who becomes involved in a case defending a young man accused of murdering a girl on New York's Upper West Side."
Criminal Justice is based on the 2008 BBC show of the same name, and will be directed by All the King's Men director Steven Zaillian.
