While Mega Man games are no longer under the control of the series' creator, Keiji Inafune has launched a Kickstater to fund his next project and the spiritual successor the Mega Man series, The Mighty No. 9.

As of Monday morning it reached its $900,000 goal, just two days after opening on August 31. Inafune will be teaming up with developers of previous Mega Man games to create The Mighty No. 9. Gamers will play as Beck, who can gain different powers and transform after defeating bosses. Beck's sister, Call, may also be playable. The Mighty No. 9 is classic side scrolling action with hand drawn cells and looks to be everything we loved about the original Mega Man series.

The game is currently in development for PC but will the success of just the first few days the team aspires to have a console release as well. The game is slated to drop sometime in spring of 2015.
