Hey, don't fix what ain't broken. But it doesn't hurt to polish it up a  bit.

After rivals Yahoo and Bing showed off their redesigned logo, Google has officially unveiled an updated logo, hopping on the design cues of iOS 7 by going for a flat look that tosses out the texture and shadows of the previous incarnation. The letters are just slightly tweaked, and the color palette has been adjusted to give it a more "washed out" look. This is the first time Google has updated its logo since 2010, when they brightened colors and toned down some of the shading. "As part of this design, we’ve also refined the color palette and letter shapes of the Google logo," the company wrote in a blog post. "We'll be rolling out this update across most Google products over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out and let us know your thoughts."

Along with the updated look, Google is introducing a new navigation button: a grid that allows access to all of Google's most widely used programs, like YouTube, Maps and Drive.

Yeah, as you can see, this isn't anything crazy, but the changes made were all positive ones. In the words of Jony Ive, the logo is unapologetically flat.
