The lines that form in front of Apple stores around the world in anticipation of new iProducts have become the stuff of legend since the release of the first iPhone six years ago. And there was more of the same last week, as hardcore Apple fans slept on the street for up to eight days in a row to be able to be among the first to get their hands on the new device.

Filmmaker Casey Neistat, who lined up himself, produced a short film that attempts to document the iPhone 5S mania and to find out what the rest of the world has been wondering: Why do they do it?

Aside from predictable responses, like diehard fans unable to contain their enthusiasm for Apple and hustler-minded opportunists hoping to earn an extra buck in the early days of the smartphone’s release, one fan’s explanation seems to ring particularly true: “I think you have to be a little crazy to wait in line.”
