Nevermind, Dr. Luke Won't Be Joining "American Idol" After All

There's a "conflict of interest."

Though Deadline reported this past weekend that Dr. Luke on American Idol was pretty much a sure thing, it looks like they may have spoken too quickly (and jinxed the whole thing, obviously): According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dr. Luke has dropped out of negotiations to join Idol as a third judge, because of a "conflict of interest"—in other words, he'd like to focus on maintaining his career as a hit record producer, and not be chained to a judges table on Idol next to Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban

From THR:

None

It's a fair enough decision—Idol would call for a lot of his time (at least six months), and considering this is the guy who produced hits like Katy Perry's "Wide Awake," One Direction's "Rock Me," Ke$ha's "Die Young," and Marina & the Diamonds' "How to Be a Heartbreaker" all in one year, he likes to stay busy doing that.

With Dr. Luke dropping out of the race, that means Idol producers are still looking for a third celeb to take on the role of record producer-judge that Randy Jackson left vacant this past year. THR is reporting that Jennifer Lopez has suggested Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun, but there's no confirmation on that just yet. He is responsible for Bieber's fame, as well as that of Psy, UK boy band The Wanted (AKA, the ones that aren't One Direction), and Ariana Grande, so it's safe to say he knows what's what when it comes to shaping a successful artist.

Season 13 of Idol will premiere in January 2014.
