Today, a man remains in critical condition after being knocked unconscious for launching a racist tirade in the West Village. This occurred around 5:30 p.m. yesterday outside of Benny's Burritos when an unidentified drunken man was heard yelling "You n****** are why I lost my job" to a black couple.

Benny's employee Robert Garcia told the New York Post "This really belligerent white guy came walking up to them and started yelling out the n-word." "There was some sort of altercation and it made the black guy punch the white guy in the face. He was out cold. I thought he was dead," he added.

A witness who was talking to the man before he got laid out said he was angry because his wife had left him and he had lost his job at Goldman Sachs. Apparently, as the liquor poured, so did his feelings. One of those feelings was hate.

The man suffered head trauma after hitting his head on the curb and was taken to Beth Israel Medical Center in critical condition. Queens native Douglas Reddish, 25, was arrested and charged with assault. While he may have been wrong in theory (i.e. the eyes of the law), put yourself in his shoes and ask yourself how you'd react. It's not as black and white as it seems, no pun intended.
