If you've been thinking that it's about time for a new adaptation of Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen graphic novels, good news: Fox agrees.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has just ordered a pilot based on the 1999 comic book series, which follows the story of classic characters in literature like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the Invisible Man, Captain Nemo of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and Mina Harker of Dracula, amongst others, teaming up together to fight a common foe. Their employer is initially the diabolical Professor Moriarty of the Sherlock Holmes series, but eventually Sherlock Holmes' brother, Mycroft Holmes, replaces him. Basically, it's like The Avengers for literature enthusiasts.

A film adaptation was made in 2003 starring Sean Connery, but it was very loosely based on the comic series and is widely considered to be a terrible movie (it has 17% on Rotten Tomatoes).

Neither Moore or O'Neill will be involved in the pilot--Moore has previously stated he wants no part of adaptations. Instead, Smallville's Michael Green will write the pilot, and will executive produce it alongside The Matrix's Erwin Stoff.
