Ex-CEO of Groupon Releases an Album on iTunes

From the boardroom to the top of the charts?

Everyone has a dream. As a little boy, ex-Groupon CEO Andrew Mason did not dream of being a CEO of a successful startup. He dreamt of being a musician. And now that dream has come true. Mason has dropped a seven song album, entitled Hardly Workin on iTunes about the ins and outs of the business world. The album, which is also available on Spotify, has a country sound and features Bishop Lamont, a former rapper signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment label.

“This album pulls some of the most important learnings from my years at the helm of one of the fastest growing businesses in history, and packages them as music. Executives, mid-level management, and front-line employees are all sure to find valuable takeaways,” Mason said in his blog.

Mason, who studied music at Northwestern University and founded Groupon Inc. in 2008, was fired back in February for failure of meeting certain quarterly goals. Luckily for him he had a plan B. This album was his way of still contributing his knowledge and experience to the business world.

According to the Washington Post, “The Chicago-based company’s stock price had nearly doubled since Mason’s firing.” Maybe it was a good thing that he left his day job. Only time will tell how this new career pans out.
