Vanillaware lead artist and producer George Kamitani has revealed via his Twitter that the company’s upcoming 2D RPG brawler Dragon’s Crown cost over 100 million yet, or just under id="mce_marker" million USD.

“I’m very thankful to have met the release date without problems,” Kamitani tweeted (via translation).

It’s not surprising the ambitious Dragon’s Crown cost so much. As a fully-fledged HD effort that Atlus has reported will feature a 20 hour campaign per each of the game’s six characters (Not to mention Kamitani’s stunning artwork, which tends to resemble moving watercolor paintings), one could see where the costs add up. Vanillaware is no stranger to games of this artistic caliber, having released Odin Sphere, Muramasa and GrimGrimoire, among others, in years past.

Dragon’s Crown hits PS3 and Vita next month.
