Proposed Bill Would Allow California Residents to Park at Broken Meters Without Fear of Tickets

Rejoice.

California residents may soon be thanking Assemblyman Mike Gatto. The democrat scripted a bill that would prevent cities in the glorious state from handing out tickets to drivers who park at broken meters. Furthermore, it would give anyone who parks at a broken meter the full amount of time that a fully operational meter would. Call him a hero.

State senate approved the bill on Wednesday, and now it will travel to the desk of Gov. Jerry Brown. Broken meters have been a problem for the state, particularly in Los Angeles, where City Council voted to keep a two-year policy in place that allowed tickets to be given to drivers unfortunate enough to park at them.
