Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall was a big deal at E3, showing off the long awaited new game from ex-Infinity Ward developers (which as it turns out, looks like a cross between Call of Duty and Hawken). While it’s easy to see the game as direct competition with Call of Duty: Ghosts, Respawn’s co-founder Vince Zampella – who also co-created Infinity Ward back in 2002 – doesn’t see it that way.

One seemingly big departure between Titanfall’s sci-fi and Call of Duty’s modern military trappings is the lack of a single-player campaign, which Zampella said wouldn’t be an effective use of resources for the team in a recent interview with Games Industry International.

“We make these single-player missions that take up all the focus of the studio, that take a huge team six months to make, and players run through it in eight minutes," said Zampella, presumably referring to the majority of triple-A shooters on the market. "And how many people finish the single-player game? It's a small percentage.”

Zampella said Respawn isn’t “gunning for Call of Duty” either, considering the Xbox One exclusiveis planned for a release next Spring rather than competing with this November’s Call of Duty: Ghosts. Read the full interview below.
