Android is Coming to the Desktop with Slate 21, HP's Slick New Computer

It's pretty much a huge Android tablet.

None

Following in the footsteps of the flurry of all-in-one touchscreen PCs that run Windows 8, HP is bringing out its own all-in-one, but it's not running Windows.

Slate 21, HP's new computer, runs Android 4.2.2 on a glorious 1080p 21.5 inch display. If you haven't used or seen an all-in-one touchscreen computer, they resemble giant tablets that are propped up on a stand, complete with a mouse and keyboard. Slate 21 is powered by a Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, and its moderately priced at $399. The "let-down," if you could call it that, is that Slate 21 doesn't run on an internal battery. So, you can't just pop it up and carry it around, like Sony's Windows 8-powered VAIO Tap 20. But carrying it around on a daily basis probably wasn't in your plans anyway, was it?

You'll have to wait until Slate 21's September release to see how Android runs on the big screen.
