It's been 37 years since Brian De Palma's adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel, Carrie was released in theaters, but it's still extremely iconic and influential - so the news that Boys Don't Cry director Kimberly Peirce planned on remaking it made a lot of people rightly skeptical. However, judging by the first trailer released for the film, the project has the real potential to be just as hair-raising and creepy as its 1976 predecessor.

Starring Chloë Grace Moretz as the titular Carrie, and Julianne Moore as her psychotic, devoutly religious mother, the film looks to be extremely similar in tone and plot to both the previous film and King's book, but it's updated as well - for instance, in the shower scene where Carrie discovers menstration exists, her bully classmates can be seen filming her with their phones.

Also, Carrie just wants to be normal, poor thing: "I want to be normal. I have to try and be a whole person, before it's too late." Yeah, safe to say it's too late.

You can check out the trailer above. Carrie hits theaters October 18th.
