If you're in the market for a new laptop, now might be the time to go shopping.
Notebook prices could drop to $200, Intel's CEO Dadi Perlmutter told CNET, but the majority of those products would be Android-based devices, not Windows 8. Anything running on Windows 8 is subject to Microsoft's price fluctuations, he said, and there's no telling how much those will cost.
As Intel faces a slowdown in the market, it's looking for ways to break even and one of those is by lowering the price of its convertible notebooks. The cheapest devices will use Intel's Atom chips, while those running Intel's mainstream Core line could retail anywhere from $399 to $499. Higher end devices could surpass that price point.
