In an interview with Polygon, PETA's spokesperson Matt Bruce expressed his disappointment in Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed sequel for its whale hunting. Bruce told Polygon, "In Assassin's Creed 4, you get ahead by killing. Joe Shmoe who plays this game in his mother's basement in the safety and comfort of his home will feel a sense of accomplishment by killing this whale."

As if that wasn't enough, when asked about whaling's historical relevance to the set time period, Bruce replied, "If there was a game that took place in pre-Civil War America where your character had to enslave people, people would definitely have a problem with that because they would feel like it was glorifying the enslavement of people."

Ubisoft didn't take PETA's condemnation laying down. Stone Chin, PR Manager for Ubisoft responded to Matt Bruce's claim saying,

"We do not condone illegal whaling, just as we don't condone a pirate lifestyle of poor hygiene, plundering, hijacking ships, and over-the legal-limit drunken debauchery."

You can check out the entire story over at Polygon's site. It's a real barn burner (No barns were actually harmed in the report).
