This year may go down as the year of the mini tablet.
Shipments of 9.7 inch LCD panels are down 6.1 million units from December, says Boy Genius Report, just as 7.9-inch panels rose from 12 million units to 14 million.
Apple's launch of the iPad Mini last fall is mostly to blame, and a research firm predicts that tablets in the 5-inch to 8.9-inch range will account for a whopping 136 million units this year. As for 9-inch to 10-inch tablets, those will only total 118 million units. And shipments of tablet panels overall will top 254 million.
