Until we've got an Oculus Rift in our living rooms and we can get drunk, stick it on our heads, and throw up from how much fun we're having, we're going to remain skeptical of virtual reality gaming. But videos like this do a pretty good job of convincing us that it might just be awesome.

One Nathan Andrews modded Half-Life 2 to include support for the headset as well as gun-tracking using an Xbox 360 Top Shot Elite controller. From the Youtube description:

I've added full head tracking and weapon tracking to Half-Life 2 in preparation for the Oculus Rift dev kit launch. Once the official rift apis are available I'll integrate them, giving people ~70 hours of content (this also works for episode 1 & 2, the lost coast and tons of user generated maps, etc) that they can use to test out their Rift.

He said that though the videos aren't perfectly in sync, "the actual tracking is very responsive and accurate."

If you've got the necessary equipment you can try it out yourself—just check here for more details.
