The TSA is ending its $5 million contract with OSI Systems, the manufacturer of "naked" airport body scanners, since the company's can't meet its June 1 congressional deadline to make privacy software.
The software, called automatic target recognition, or ATR, would have made the scanner images far less revealing.
A similar thing happened last year, when OSI assured everyone it could meet the deadline but was accused of fudging its data.
Now the 1000SP scanners are being removed from airports and the TSA is shifting to full-body scanners from L-3 Communications Holdings, its other supplier, reports The Verge.
OSI will continue to work with the TSA on imaging technology.
